I really did not need to make another coaster. But a tiny crochet one shaped like an open book? Yeah, that one was happening. It was too cute to leave alone. This open book crochet coaster pattern has that cozy little bookish charm I love, but I will say, it was not the easiest one to design, even if the finished pattern is quite beginner-friendly. It took a lot of trial and error, and letโs just say there were quite a few frustrating frogging moments along the way that nearly did me in.
But it is finally finished, and I am so happy to share it with you today and show you how to make your own. And even if you are not a bookworm yourself, this would make such a cute gift for any book lover in your life.
So letโs do this, grab your hook and letโs get started together!

With the red worsted yarn, slip stitch a straight line down the center to separate the two pages, as shown in the photos below.
Then add the writing details with the black sport yarn, and embroider the flowers on the pages using the embroidery floss.

The Book’s Cover – Cute Crochet Coaster Pattern
With the cream colored yarn, chain 31. Starting the 2nd loop from the hook:
Row 1: 3 hdc, 6 sc, sc inc, 3 sc, sc dec x 2, 3 sc, sc inc, 6 sc, 3 hdc (30)
Row 2 to 16: 30 hdc (30)
Row 17: 9 hdc, hdc inc, 3 sc, sc dec x 2, 3 sc, hdc inc, 9 hdc (30)
Change to the red worsted yarn. We will now crochet the edges of the book cover, starting with the first side of the cover, on the left:
Round 1: 16 sc on the left side, now back to the beginning chain base: sc inc in the first loop, 8 sc, sc dec, 2 sc, hdc inc, 1 hdc, hdc inc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, sc dec, 8 sc, sc inc, now on the other side (right): 16 SC. Back to the top of the cover (which is our row 17): sc inc, 8 sc, sc inc, 3 sc, sc dec x 2, 3 sc, sc inc, 8 sc, sc inc. Cut the yarn and finish the round with an invisible join for a clean finish.

Sew everything together!
The only thing left to do now is assemble everything by sewing the pages onto the book cover, making sure to align the center and sides neatly for a balanced, harmonious finish.

You can now enjoy your new coaster by pouring yourself a nice hot coffee and letting it rest on your freshly finished little book. It is such a quick and easy crochet project, and I really encourage beginners to give it a try if you feel comfortable working in rows.

What I love about this design is that it feels special without being overwhelming. It is a cute crochet coaster pattern with a playful bookish design, but it is still approachable enough to be an easy crochet coaster pattern for many crocheters, especially if you are looking to practice row work on a project that is actually fun to make.
