Abbreviations – Strawberry Jam Crochet Bag

ch: chain

sc: chain

sl st: slip stitch

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

tr: treble crochet

inc: increase

dec: decrease

BLO: back loops only

FLO: front loops only

Notes

Every round ends with a sl st to the 1st single crochet of the round.

Every row ends with a ch 1 then turn.

The felt fabric dimensions are: 14 cm x 9,3 cm, round the corner of the rectangle.

The gauge for: – the red yarn is 15 sc x 16 rows = 10 x 10 cm

– the white yarn is 13 sc x 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm

– the amigurumi yarn is 13 sc x 13 rows = 5 x 5 cm

Adjust the height of the bag by adding or removing rounds in the middle, depending on your desired size.

Cut a round piece of plastic canvas, approximately 10 cm in diameter (adjust the size to match the bottom of your bag), and sew it to the bottom of the bag once it’s made. This will provide extra support and prevent the bottom from sagging when the bag is filled.

R12: 48 sc (48)
R13: 48 sc BLO (48)
R14: 48 sc (48)

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. This is the bottom of the lid.

Create an additional round to form the top of the lid, following this pattern:

Round 1: 6 sc (6)
Round 2: sc inc x 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24)
R5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30)
R6: (4 sc, sc inc) x 6 (36)
R7: (5 sc, sc inc) x 6 (42)

Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew the top of the lid to the bottom part

Start by filling the bottom of the lid with polyester fiber.

Once filled, position the top of the lid correctly.

To attach the two parts, sew the top to the bottom by stitching through both loops of the last round of the bottom and the front loops of the last round of the top.

Keep in mind that the last round of the top has six fewer stitches than the last round of the bottom, so adjust your sewing accordingly to ensure a proper fit.

The Hinge Panel

To attach the lid to the jar, we will create a hinge and sew it to the back of both pieces.

Ch 7, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Row 1 to 3 : 6 sc (6)
R4: 6 sc BLO (6)
R5 to 7: 6 sc (6)

Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew the top of the hinge to the upper back of the lid Next, insert the lid into the jar to ensure proper alignment, then sew the hinge to the back of the jar. By placing the lid inside the jar first, you can accurately position the hinge, ensuring the lid fits perfectly and the bag opens smoothly. Ensure that the part where the front loops of row 4 protrude faces the bag, mimicking the appearance of a real hinge.

The Side Tabs – Strawberry Jam Crochet Bag

Ch 4, starting the 2nd loop from the hook

Row 1 to 6 : 6 sc (6)

Don’t cut the yarn. Slide one D-ring to the center of the tab, then fold the tab in half. Next, chain 1 and work 3 single crochets through the stitches from both the first and last rows to secure it closed.

Create two tabs in this manner, then sew them onto each side of the bag at the same position where round 31 was previously made on the jar section.

Jam Jar Topper

Now grab your white yarn and keep the 5 mm hook still.

Round 1: 6 sc (6)
Round 2: sc inc x 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24)
R5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30)
R6: (4 sc, sc inc) x 6 (36)
R7: (5 sc, sc inc) x 6 (42)

R8: (6 sc, sc inc) x 6 (48)

R9: 48 sc BLO (48)

R10: 48 sc (48)

R11: {3 sc, ch 1, skip a stitch} repeat this until the end. You end up with a total of 12 holes.

R12: 48 sc (48) – Please note that the previous chain 1 counts as a stitch, so you should insert your hook into the chain 1 space to make a single crochet each time you encounter one.

R13: FLO {(1 sc, 1 hdc) in the same stitch, dc inc x 2, (1 hdc, 1 sc) in the next stitch} repeat this around until the end of the round.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Please note that the diameter of the topper is 11.5 cm, while the diameter of the lid is 10.5 cm.

Grab your red yarn we will make a twine for the topper.

Ch 101, then starting the 2nd loop fro the hook make 100 sl st.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Place the topper on the lid of the jar. Slide the twine through the holes we previously created in the topper and tighten it slightly to secure the topper to the lid. Finally, tie a bow at the front to complete the look.

The Strawberries

With the amigurumi red yarn and the 3 mm crochet hook: Ch 5, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Round 1: 3 sc, (3 sc in last stitch), continue working on the other side of the chain base: 2 sc, sc inc in the last stitch (which is also the first loop of the chain base where we started the round) (10)

R2: sc inc, 2 sc, sc inc, (3 sc in the next stitch), sc inc, 2 sc, sc inc, 1 sc (16)

R3: (1 hdc, 1 tr) in the first stitch, 1 tr, (1 tr, 1 dc) in the next stitch, 1 dc, 2 hdc, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 1 dc, (1 dc, 1 tr) in the next stitch, 1 tr, (1 tr, 1 hdc) in the next stitch, 1 sc (20)

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Using white yarn, add a few stitches to create lines on the strawberry for a more realistic look.

The Strawberry’s calyx

With the green amigurumi yarn and the same hook size: make a magic circle.

Round 1: {Ch3, starting the 2nd loop from the hook: 2 sl st, sl st back in the magic circle} repeat this a total of 5 times.

Cut the yarn. To make the last leaf stand upright and add dimension to the calyx, thread the hanging yarn through the tip of the leaf back to the center of the magic circle using a yarn needle. Pull it tight to secure the leaf in place. Finally, sew the calyx onto the top of the strawberry. Make 3 strawberries this way.

The Leaves

Ch 5, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Round 1: (1 hdc, 1 tr) in the first stitch, (1 hdc, 1 tr) in the next stitch, 1 hdc, (1 hdc, 1 tr, 1 hdc) in the next stitch, continue working on the other side of the chain base: 1 hdc, (1 tr, 1 hdc) in the next stitch, (1 tr, 3 hdc) in the last stitch. Sl st 1st stitch.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Make a total of 5 leaves this way.

The Flower

Start with the yellow yarn and the same hook size, and make a magic circle.

Round 1: 5 sc (5)

Change color to the white yarn.

Round 2: {(Ch2, 2 dc, ch2, 1 sl st) in the same stitch, 1 sl st in the next stitch} repeat this 5 times.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Make 2 flowers this way.

The Stem

Ch 35, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Row 1: 13 sl st, ch 12, 11 sl st, 12 sl st, ch 9, 8 sl st, 9 sl st

We will add a small side shoot to the main stem.

Ch 10, starting the 2nd loop from the hook make: 9 sl st. Cut the yarn and sew the shoot to the bottom left side of the main stem.

Glue the stem to the felt fabric this way:

Now, glue all the strawberries, leaves, and flowers onto the stem. After that, attach the felt fabric to the front of the bag by sewing or gluing it in place.

The Frame

Chain 69, then slip stitch into the first chain to form a circle, creating a total of 70 loops. Begin in the same loop where the slip stitch was made:

Round 1: sc inc, 20 sc, sc inc, 13, sc inc, 20 sc, sc inc, 13, sl st in the 1st sc of the round.

Cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing, make an invisible join and weave in the ends.

Sew the frame along the edges of the felt fabric.

The final step is to attach the chain strap to your bag, and then you’re ready to show off your new Strawberry Jam Crochet Bag. Let everyone admire this adorable and unique accessory!
