After writing my article of the Top 10 Free Crochet Patterns to try in 2025, I was heavily inspired by the Tulip Lipstick Pouch to create my own design for a crochet lip balm holder. While brainstorming, I kept an eye out for fresh ideas, and the other day, as I was scrolling through Pinterest, I stumbled upon an adorable Stanley cup style lipstick holder. That’s when it hit me: why not make a crochet tumbler lip balm holder ? I hadn’t seen anything like it before, so I knew I had to give it a try!
Now, I’m excited to share this super easy and quick project that makes a perfect gift for yourself or a loved one. Let’s get started!

The handle
Chain 14, and starting the 2nd loop from the hook:
R1: 2 sc, sc inc, 7 sc, sc inc, 2 sc (15)
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Make two identical pieces, then place them back to back and sew them together. Before finishing the seam, insert a small piece of craft wire between the layers to add sturdiness to the handle.

Once your handle is ready, sew it on the side of your crochet lip balm holder.

The Lid
The Top of the Lid
With the white yarn and the 2,5 mm hook, make a magic circle.
Round 1: 6 sc (6)
Round 2: sc inc x 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24)
R5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30)
R6: 30 sc BLO (30)
Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing.
The Bottom of the Lid
Make a magic circle.
Round 1: 6 sc (6)
Round 2: sc inc x 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24)
R5: 24 sc (24)
R6: FLO (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30)
Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Sew the bottom to the top to complete the lid of your crochet lip balm holder. To fill the inside, you have a few options: add a bit of polyester fiber for a soft feel, insert a piece of cut cardboard for a sturdier lid with a better closure, or, if you want it to be washable, use a small piece of flexible plastic instead. The choice is yours!

The Straw
Chain 5, then slip stitch in the 1st loop of the chain, making it 6 loops in total.
Round 1 to 5: 6 sc (6)
Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing. Sew the straw on the top of the lid.

The Hinge
Chain 4, then starting the 2nd loop from the hook:
Round 1 to 4: 3 sc (3)
Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing. Sew the bottom of the hinge on the bottom of the cup, right next to the handle, then sew the top of the hinge to the lid.

The Cord Loop And Button
Chain 14, then cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Attach the cord to the lid, ensuring a loop from the chain remains loose enough to slip over the button for a secure closure. Sew the button onto the cup, aligning it with the loop to keep the lid closed.

The Flowers
With the embroidery floss (1 strand) and the 2 mm crochet hook, make a magic circle.
Round 1: (Ch2, 1 dc, ch2, sl st in the magic circle) x 5
Cut the thread, leaving a tail for sewing. Make 10 flowers in the same way, then sew them onto the cup as decoration.
You can also make stars instead of flowers by making a magic circle then:
Round 1: 5 sc (5)
Round 2: (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc) in each stitch x 5

With this, your crochet lip balm holder is complete! Simply attach a keyring to the handle to transform it into a cute keychain or a stylish bag charm.
