Top of the bag – Crochet VHS Tape Bag
Now, we will work the top of the bag, leaving a gap in the center where we will sew the zipper later. The top of the bag will be divided as follows: 31 stitches for the front and back panels, and 6 stitches for each side, which will remain untouched until we sew the front and back panels together to close the top and attach the zipper in the center.
R25: 4 sl st (to leave the space for the 6 sc from the right side of the bag), 31 sc BLO (31)
R26: 31 sc (31)
Cut the yarn and fasten, leave a tail for sewing.
Join the yarn back (with a blo sc) to the back side of the bag and make again 31 sc BLO. To do so, count 6 stitches on the left of your top front panel, then join the yarn with a sc in the 7th stitch, in its back loops only.
R26: 31 sc (31)
Cut the yarn and fasten, leave a tail for sewing.
Now that you have the top front and back panels, fold them down and sew their sides to the bag where the 6 stitches were left untouched. Attach each panel side into 2 stitches, which will leave a 2-stitch gap in the center for sewing the zipper.
The Back Plates – Crochet VHS Tape Bag
You need the cream yarn and the 5 mm crochet hook.
Ch7, starting the second loop from the hook:
Row 1 to 2: 6 sc (6)
R3: sc inc, 5 sc (7)
R4: 7 sc (7)
R5: sc inc x 2, 5 sc (9)
R6: 9 sc (9)
R7: sc inc, 8 sc (10)
Row 8 to 10: 10 sc (10)
R11: sc dec, 8 sc (9)
R12: 9 sc (9)
R13: sc dec x 2, 5 sc (7)
R14: 7 sc (7)
R15: sc dec, 5 sc (6)
Row 16 to 17: 6 sc (6)
Cut the yarn and fasten off. Make 2 of them.
The Reels
You need 4 different colors of the embroidery threads (white, yellow, pink and light purple), and the 2,5 mm crochet hook.
With the yellow thread:
Row 1 : 5 sc
Row 2 : sc inc x 5 (10)
R3 : 2 sc, sc inc, 4 sc, sc inc, 2 sc (12)
R4 : 1 sc, sc inc, 8 sc, sc inc, 1 sc (14)
We will crochet in the bottom of the reel to reach back the 1st sc of the last row: ch 1, 7 sc, ch 1, then sl st in the 1st sc of the row.
Change color to pink:
R5 : sc inc, 2 sc, sc inc, 6 sc, sc inc, 2 sc, sc inc (18)
R6 : 5 sc, sc inc, 6 sc, sc inc, 5 sc (20)
R7 : 4 sc, sc inc, 3 sc, sc inc, 2 sc, sc inc, 3 sc, sc inc, 4 sc (24)
Change color to light purple:
R8 : 5 sc, sc inc, 12 sc, sc inc, 5 sc (26)
R9 : 7 sc, sc inc, 10 sc, sc inc, 7 sc (28)
R10 : 5 sc, sc inc, 16 sc, sc inc, 5 sc (30)
Cut the yarn and fasten off. Make 2 reels, for one of them stop at row 9 to make it smaller. With the white yarn stitch so lines to make it looks more like a reel. Sew each reels to the back plates.
Cut and sew the clear vinyl
Cut the vinyl fabric so that one edge is straight and the other edge is rounded. This shape will allow the vinyl to wrap snugly around the back plate. To make it easier to wrap around the curved part of the back plate, make three small cuts or notches in the vinyl along the rounded edge. This will allow the fabric to bend smoothly without bunching or warping.
Place the vinyl around the back plate, aligning the straight edge with the back and allowing the rounded edge to curve around. Use small points of glue on the back to hold the vinyl securely in place.
Slide the back plate with the attached vinyl into the dips and through the top and bottom holes, you previously created in the bag. Ensure it fits securely.
Sew the vinyl-covered back plate in place with the invisible thread, ensuring a neat finish that holds everything together securely. Repeat this process on the other side of the bag.
Sew the zipper
Turn the bag upside down and sew the zipper from the inside, fitting it into the opening we left.
The Tabs For The Strap – Crochet VHS Tape Bag
You need the blue cotton yarn again (2 strands held together) and the 6 mm crochet hook.
Ch 4, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:
R1 to 7 : 3 sc (3)
Fold the tab in two, chain 1 and join the top and bottom rows together with 3 sl st. Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing. Make 2 tabs this way.
Sew each piece to the top sides of the bag. Insert the D-rings into the sewn loops, then attach the chain strap to the D-rings.
The Middle Cross Stitch Panel
Cut a rectangle measuring 6.7 cm x 8 cm from the cross-stitch fabric, adding a 1 cm seam allowance around the edges. Fold under the edges to prevent fraying. Using watercolor paint, create a night sky effect by blending three different shades of blue for the background.
The cross-stitch design requires a surface measuring 36 squares in width and 42 squares in height.
Reproduce the design below by cross stitching it on the fabric.
Once you have completed the cross-stitching, sew the fabric onto the center of the VHS tape.
Your bag is now complete and ready to be shown off!
