Lacy Crochet Hat Perfect For Summer Free Pattern

Let’s talk about that kind of project that makes you feel just a tiny bit fancy while you’re making it, and a whole lot proud when it’s done. This lacy crochet hat isn’t your basic beanie, it’s a little elegant, a little chic, and definitely one of those makes that looks like it took way more effort than it actually did (we’ll keep that between us).

With its delicate stitches, soft crochet lacy beanie shape, and tassels that fall gently on each side like a quiet statement, this one’s got flair. And the beads? Oh, just a few sparkly guests to elevate the whole vibe. So whether you’re dreaming up your next summer crochet hat, or looking to add a crochet trendy hat to your collection, the kind that says “yes, I made this” with a little twinkle, this one’s calling out to be on your hook. Ready to give it a go?

Material – Summer Crochet Hat

Abbreviations

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

tr: treble crochet

inc: increase

tr2tog: treble two together

R: round / row

Notes – Crochet Lacy Beanie

I used two strands of cotton yarn held together for this pattern. However, if you have a cotton yarn that matches a 3.5 mm crochet hook, you won’t need to double the yarn. That said, for a lighter, airier finish, I still recommend using mercerized cotton like I did (which means holding two strands together). It gives the crochet lacy hat a breezier, more summery look!

So the gauge for the 2 strands of yarn held together and the 3,5 mm hook is: 10 x 10 cm = 23 tr x 6 rows.

The crochet lacy beanie is designed to fit an adult woman’s head. You can easily adjust the size by adding or removing rounds in the crown base, then adapting the pattern according to the number of stitches you have at the end of the crown base. I’ve included a diagram with a key further down to help you out, especially if the written instructions feel a bit unclear. Once you understand the stitches after the crown base, you’ll see, it’s actually a very simple pattern!

Make a magic circle. We’ll work in rounds to create the crown base of the summer hat.

Round 1: 16 tr (16)

Round 2: 16 tr inc (32)

R3: (1 tr, inc) x16 (48)

R4: (2 tr, inc) x16 (64)

R5: (3 tr, inc) x16 (80)

R6: (4 tr, inc) x16 (96)

At this stage, the crown base of the lacy crochet hat should have a diameter of 16 cm. From here on, we’ll switch from working in rounds to working in rows.

Work in rows

Row 7: Ch 6, work a tr2tog with the first treble in the first stitch, skip the next stitch, and make the second treble in the following stitch. (Ch 2, tr2tog with the first treble in the same stitch as the previous tr2tog, skip one stitch, second treble in the next stitch) — repeat this sequence around until 1 stitch remain. To finish, ch 2, work 1 tr into the same stitch as your last tr2tog, and leave the final stitch unworked.

Row 8: Ch 4, turn. Work 1 tr into the first free tr2tog stitch from the previous row. (Ch 2, tr2tog with the first treble in the same stitch as the previous tr2tog, and the second treble in the next available tr2tog stitch) — repeat this sequence across. After your final tr2tog, ch 2, then work a final tr2tog with the second treble placed into the 4th loop of the ch6 from the previous row.

R9: Ch 6, turn. Work a tr2tog with the first treble in the first tr2tog stitch from the previous row and the second treble in the next available tr2tog stitch. (Ch 2, tr2tog with the first treble in the same stitch as the previous tr2tog and the second treble in the next available tr2tog stitch) — repeat this sequence across the row. At the end, after your final tr2tog, work (ch 2, 1 tr) into the same stitch as your last tr2tog.

Repeat Row 8 and 9 alternatively until you reach row 17.

R18: Ch1 , skip the first tr2tog stitch, (and in the next one make a shell stitch (5 tr), sl st in the next tr2tog stitch) repeat this until the end (so you will have 24 shell stitches by the end. When you reach the end of the row: sl st in the last tr2tog stitch, then sl st in the 4th loop from the previous ch6, and finish with a ch 70.

Cut the yarn and fastern off.

The Tassels and Beads

That chain-70 you just made? Congrats, that’s your first tassel done! Now go ahead and make 9 more the same way (yep, chain 70 each time). Once you’ve got all 9 (plus the one you already made), just stitch them in place where shown in the picture below. (5 tassels in each side)

Now gather your 82 beads and get ready to add some sparkle to your hat! Here’s how to place them:

  • Attach 1 bead to the center stitch of each shell, you should have 24 shells in total.
  • Then, go 4 rows below the last row and evenly attach 9 beads.
  • Go another 4 rows down and add 9 more beads in a similar way.
  • Lastly, add 4 beads to each tassel.

You can arrange them symmetrically or place them wherever you like, follow your creative flow and make it your own!
