Creative ways to upcycle plastic rings into crochet earrings
Earrings 1
With pearl cotton and 2 mm crochet hook. Before starting crocheting, add the beads on your yarn. Put them aside, in your skein of yarn, when crocheting the first round. Each earring will have 18 pearls.
Round 1: Join yarn with a sc around the plastic ring. Add 53 sc more.
Sl st in the 1st sc of the round. (54)
Round 2: prepare your 1st pearl and slid it toward the earring, make a sl st in the next stitch with your pearl secured into this sl st.
(2 sl st, sl st with a pearl in the next stitch) repeat this until the end of the round.
You should have 54 sl st and 18 pearls on your earring. Make an invisible join at the end of the round, cut yarn and weave in ends. Add your earring hook in the middle between the first and last pearl.
Make 2 earrings this way. To embellish the earrings, you can make 2 little bows with some nylon ribbon and glue a little pearl on their middle.
Earrings 2
With the cotton yarn and the 2,5 mm hook.
Firstly, take your plastic ring and give it a heart shape by folding it in a place and slightly fold the opposite side too. To keep this shape, burn lightly the plastic and cool it down directly after, it will stay in this shape and stay stiff.
Round 1: Take your heart shaped plastic ring, and join color 1 yarn with a sc. Sc all around the ring. The number of stitches doesn’t matter. Make an invisible join at the end, cut yarn and weave in ends.
The left wing
Top part:
Make a magic circle with color 2 yarn.
Row 1: 3 sc, close the magic circle tight, ch 1 then turn your work.
Row 2: (dc, tr, picot ch2, tr, dc) in the first stitch, 1 hdc, 1 sc.
Cut yarn, and fasten off.
Bottom part:
Make a magic circle.
Row 1: hdc2tog, sl st in the magic circle, ch 2, dc2tog, ch 2, sl st in the magic circle.
Close the ring, cut yarn and weave in ends. Sew the bottom part on the top one, making sure that the bottom is on the front.
The right wing
Top part:
Make a magic circle with color 2 yarn.
Row 1: 3 sc, close the magic circle tight, ch 1 then turn your work.
Row 2: 1 sc, 1 hdc, (dc, tr, picot ch2, tr, dc) in the last stitch.
Cut yarn, and fasten off.
Bottom part:
Make a magic circle.
Row 1: ch 1, dc2tog, ch 2, sl st in the magic circle, hdc2tog, sl st in the magic circle.
Close the ring, cut yarn and weave in ends. Sew the bottom part on the top one, making sure that the bottom is on the front.
Then sew the wings on each side of the heart. Place your earring hook on the middle top of your heart, and you will be done. Make 2 earrings this ways. You can add a pendent in the middle of the heart to add to the cuteness of it.
Earrings 3
With the gold eyelash thread and the 2 mm hook. We will need 4 plastic rings for these earrings.
Just like we did with earrings 2, make an hexagon shape with the plastic ring and stiffen it by slightly burning it.
Round 1: join yarn with a sc around the 1st plastic ring. Sc all around the ring to hide the plastic ring, the number of stitches doesn’t matter. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Take the 2nd hexagon and make a cut on one of its side (don’t cut one of the corner, cut one of the side).
Insert hexagon 2 in hexagon 1 via the cut side, then glue the cut so it will not open when we will crochet around the plastic round next.
Join yarn around the 2nd hexagon, with a sc. Sc all around the plastic ring, then at the end of the round, cut yarn and weave in ends.
Place your earring hook on of the 1st hexagon corner. Make 2 earrings this way. And you finally finished this project!
You have now 3 new pairs of earrings made out of plastic rings. This was such a fun project to make since you have to try and come up with something new each time.
