Crochet Heart Vase Pattern

Crochet Heart Vase Pattern – Cute Flower Pot Home Decor

I didn’t plan to make a crochet heart vase pattern at first. I was simply looking for a cute crochet vase idea, something soft and handmade that could hold a few flowers without looking like every other basic vase pattern already floating around the internet. Then I saw a ceramic vase covered with little hearts, and my brain did that special craft person thing where it whispers: “Wait… what if this was crochet?”

So obviously, one innocent idea became a full crochet experiment. The vase base is made with T-shirt yarn so it has a sturdy shape, then the little hearts are made separately using an amigurumi heart pattern I designed specifically for this and attached all around the vase.

This crochet vase pattern is for the vase itself, not the flowers inside. The crochet flowers in the photos are just there to make the vase look pretty, as flowers love to do. You can add artificial flowers, dried flowers, or whatever little crochet bouquet you already have waiting for a better home than “random jar on the shelf”.

Well… enough talking… let’s pick up your hooks and start crocheting now!

Notes – Free Crochet Vase Pattern

For the base of the crochet heart vase pattern, each round is joined with a slip stitch into the first stitch of that round. This means you will close every round before starting the next one, instead of working in a continuous spiral.

The hearts are worked differently: they are crocheted in amigurumi style, which means you will work in continuous rounds without joining at the end of each round. Using a stitch marker is recommended so you can easily keep track of the first stitch of every round.

The finished crochet flower vase measures approximately 8 cm wide and 22 cm tall.

The gauge for the cotton yarn is approximately: 11 sc x 11 rows = 5 cm x 5 cm.

The Amigurumi Heart Pattern

With the 3 mm crochet hook and the cotton DK yarn, make a magic circle.

Round 1: 6 sc (6)
Round 2: sc inc x 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18)
R4: 18 sc (18)

Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing. This forms the first top bump of the heart.

Now make the second top bump in the same way, but do not cut the yarn this time. You will use this working yarn to join the two top parts of the heart together.

With the working yarn still attached to the second top bump, insert your hook into the first free stitch of the first top bump (the one where you previously cut the yarn and left a tail).

Make your first single crochet into that stitch. This will join the two top parts of the heart together and begin the next round.

Then continue Round 5 as follows: 7 sc, sc inc, 7 sc, sc inc, leave the 2 remaining stitches of the first bump unworked. Do not crochet into them.

Now return to the second bump and continue the round. On the second bump, skip the first 2 free stitches, then work the next stitches as follows: 7 sc, sc inc, 7 sc, sc inc.

Now it’s time to close the small gap at the top of the heart.

Using the yarn tail you left earlier and a yarn needle, sew the 2 unworked stitches from each bump together. Work from the inside of the heart to keep the seam neat and hidden, then secure the yarn with a knot to close the top of the amigurumi heart.

Pick up your crochet hook again and continue working the amigurumi heart as follows:

Round 6: 36 sc (36)

R7: (7 sc, sc dec) x 4 (32)
R8: (6 sc, sc dec) x 4 (28)
R9: 28 sc (28)
R10: (5 sc, sc dec) x 4 (24)
R11: (4 sc, sc dec) x 4 (20)
R12: (3 sc, sc dec) x 4 (16)
R13: (2 sc, sc dec) x 4 (12)

Fill the inside of the amigurumi heart with the polyester fiberfill.

R14: (1 sc, sc dec) x 4 (8)

Cut the yarn and leave a tail, with the yarn needle close the bottom hole. Weave in the ends.

Make a total of 39 crochet hearts using this method.

You may need slightly fewer or more hearts than I did, depending on the size of your hearts and how closely you want to cover your vase.

Attaching the Amigurumi Hearts to the Crochet Vase

You will need a hot glue gun for this part.

Start attaching the amigurumi hearts to the crochet vase base, placing them one by one like small puzzle pieces. I recommend starting at the top edge of the vase and working your way down toward the bottom. For the first row, position the hearts so they extend just a little above the top edge of the vase.

Before gluing each heart, place it on the vase first to check the position. Once you are happy with the layout, add a small amount of hot glue to the back of the heart and press it gently onto the crochet vase. Continue gluing the hearts close together, turning and adjusting them as needed so they fit nicely around the vase. Think of it like a tiny crochet heart puzzle: take your time, play with the placement, and keep going until the surface is evenly covered.

Try not to use too much glue, otherwise it may show between the hearts. Work slowly, section by section, until the vase is fully covered.

Once the vase is fully covered with hearts, all that’s left to do is add your flowers and place your crochet vase wherever you want

And there it is: your little heart covered vase is officially ready to sit somewhere cute and pretend it didn’t require a small army of crochet hearts to get here.

I love how this crochet heart vase pattern turns something simple into a proper handmade home decor piece.

You can keep the colors soft and romantic, go full pastel, use leftover cotton yarn for the hearts, or make a bolder version if your shelf is looking a bit too polite. This crochet vase pattern is easy to personalize, which is always my favorite kind of project: the kind that gives you a plan, but still leaves plenty of room for your own creative touch.
