I’ve been on a roll designing crochet hat patterns lately, and of course, I had to make one for the littlest ones too! This toddler crochet bucket sun hat pattern was born from a vision: soft little bows dancing around the hat, adding just the right dose of charm and personality. Because let’s be honest, generic? Not on my watch.
I used raffia yarn for this one too because it gives the hat structure, durability, and that signature bucket hat shape we all know and love. It instantly took me back to my own childhood, when these hats were my go-to for any chance I had to wear them.
This is the kind of make that’s both adorable and practical, your toddler stays protected from the sun, while still looking like the main character on the playground. Lightweight, breathable, and irresistibly cute, it’s the perfect summer accessory to whip up before your next picnic or beach day.
So, what are we waiting for? Grab your hook and let’s crochet this!

The Bows
Using your white mohair yarn (double up the strand to get the right thickness) and a 3.5 mm hook, start by making a chainless foundation chain with this technique. You’re aiming for a length of about 33 cm. Once that’s done, cut the yarn and weave in the ends. Now comes the fun part: time to tie the bow! In this quick video you will see how to do it easily, no overthinking required.

Make 4 bows using the same method, then stitch them onto your crochet bucket sun hat however you like, go symmetrical, go wild, it’s your call.
And voilà, your little one now has their very own adorable handmade crochet sun hat, perfect for keeping them shaded in style this summer.

If this toddler crochet bucket hat made your heart happy, don’t just vanish!
Now let your little one enjoy their new sun hat in style, you’ve done an amazing job!
